The Jesse Tree

The Church of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Choszczno was built in the 14th century by The Joannites in the Gothic style.

The church’s most valuable monument is, located on the side wall of the presbytery, a medieval ceramic relief – the Tree of Jesse, which represents an artistic depiction of Christ’s family tree. In the centre of the composition is an image of the crucified Christ, accompanied by Mary and Saint John the Baptist. On the sides, 21 images of Christ’s ancestors are depicted.
