The Fathers of the Western Church

Bartholomaeus Fichtenberger ( born c. 1530, died 1592) – German painter, master and member of the elders of the Guild of Painters in Wroclaw, active in this city in the second half of the 16th century. Co-author of the main altar of the Cathedral in Wroclaw, for which he executed the paintings on the altar wings in 1591. When the altar cabinet is first closed, eight painting quatrefoils appear, depicting portraits of the Fathers of the Western Church: Saint Ambrose, Saint Augustine, Saint Gregory the Great and Saint Jerome.
