Sarcophagus of Bolko II the Small

The prince is depicted in full plate knightly armor, holding a shield and misericorde. At his feet are a lion—symbolizing courage, a dog—symbolizing loyalty, and the coat of arms of Lower Lusatia, of which Bolko II was the lifelong margrave.

On the sarcophagus tomb, figures associated with the ducal court are visible: Piotr Zedlitzch, Mikołaj Bolcze, and Reinczke Schaff(gotsch). The remaining visible coats of arms belong to Silesian families: Bolczów; Schaffgotsch and Reibnitz.

The Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary adjoins to the east a richly decorated mausoleum of the Piasts, built between 1735-1736, housing the 14th-century sarcophagi of the Dukes of Świdnica-Jawor, Bolko I and Bolko II.

Bolko (Bolesław) II the Small (of Świdnica) (born between 1309 and 1312, died July 28, 1368) was the Duke of Świdnica from 1326, Jawor from 1346, Lusatia from 1364, half of Brzeg and Oława from 1358, Duke of Siewierz from 1359, and half of Głogów and Ścinawa from 1361. He was the last independent Piast duke in Silesia.
