Sarcophagus of Bolko I the Strict

The prince is depicted in chainmail, over which he wears a surcoat with a side slit. In his hand, he holds a shield and a double-edged sword in an ornate scabbard. Next to his head lies a helmet. At his feet is a lion, which can be variously interpreted as a symbol of power, immortality, courage, or the devil being crushed by the prince.

The richly decorated mausoleum of the Piasts, adorned with sculptures and polychromy, is attached to the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the east. It was built between 1735-1736 and houses the 14th-century sarcophagi of the Świdnica-Jawor princes, Bolko I and Bolko II.
