Reliquary of St. John the Baptist

The reliquary is in the shape of a forearm on a profiled hexagonal base. In the body, there is a glass cylinder surrounded by four Gothic columns resting on winged angel heads and topped with figures of St. John the Baptist, St. Barbara, St. John the Evangelist, and St. John the Baptist standing on round bases.

The hand has two extended fingers in a gesture of blessing. On the middle finger, there is a ring with a ruby in a rectangular setting. Inside the cylinder is a container for relics in the shape of a gold hand with the inscription:

ISTE D’ DIGITO S IhANIS BAPT. On the upper part of the body is an engraved and nielloed inscription: DEO OPTIMO MAXIMO INTEMERATE QVE GENITRICI EIVS VIRGINI MARIE AC DIVO IOANNI BAPTISTE ET GLORIOSIS WRATISLAVIENSIS ECCLESIE PATRONIS IOANNES SCHEWERLEIN CANONICVS ET OFFICIALIS WRATISLAVIENSIS PRO VITAE NOCENTER ACTE EXPIATIONE SVORVM QVE DILUCIONE CRIMINVM INDICEM HVNC SANCTI IOANNIS BAPTISTAE ERE ET IMPENSIS SVIS DECORATVM SACRVM CVPIT ANNO CHRISTIANE SALVTIS MCCCCCXII.

The reliquary, funded by Canon Johann Scheuerlein, likely uses a fragment of an older reliquary containing relics of St. John, which was a gift from Emperor Charles IV to Bishop Przecław of Pogarell of Wrocław.
