Fusilier Cap, 4th Infantry Regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw (1807–1812)

Fusilier Cap, 4th Infantry Regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw (1807–1812)

The cap was made based on the dimensions given in the 1810 Dress Regulations for lancer caps. The cap is sewn from black stiffened felt. The square top is made of black leather. The visor and the neck guard visible in this specimen are also leather (not all caps had them). The visor is brass-bound. To prevent the cap from wobbling, a chin strap tied under the chin was used. Here, it is made of brass scales narrowing from top to bottom. It is attached to the cap on bosses featuring a fusilier star. Above the visor is a brass front plate with the number “4.” Above that is the eagle of the Duchy of Warsaw and the white national cockade. The front corner of the cap is decorated with a black pompom—the sign of a fusilier company.

Height: approx. 22.5 cm; length of the square top: approx. 25 cm
