Voltigeur Cap, 4th Infantry Regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw (1807–1812)

Voltigeur Cap, 4th Infantry Regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw (1807–1812)

The presented cap differs from the fusilier cap only in details. The most visible is the green and yellow plume made of feathers, approximately 35 cm long. It is attached in a socket under the cockade along with the pompom. The pompom is made of green woolen yarn with a diameter of approx. 5–6 cm. Green and yellow are characteristic colors for voltigeur uniform accessories in the army of the Duchy of Warsaw. The white cord (which for voltigeurs could sometimes be colored—green or yellow) consists of two woven garlands hung on the corners of the cap and a pair of flounders with tassels hanging over the soldier’s right shoulder without touching it. A single tassel on the opposite side is charred; it caught fire from sparks of a black powder weapon during a reenactment. The yellow inch-wide band around the square top indicates the rank of corporal.
