Replica of the French Dragoon Musket Model 1777 AN IX
The French 1777 model musket was produced in many variants. One of the most popular is the version for dragoon regiments—soldiers who traveled on horseback but could also fight on foot. It differs from the infantry version in length (approx. 141 cm, barrel approx. 102 cm) and a double middle band. According to studies, this type of weapon was used by voltigeur companies in the infantry regiments of the Duchy of Warsaw. A shorter musket was more convenient for voltigeurs, who were generally shorter than soldiers in other companies. The presented specimen has a socket bayonet mounted on the barrel. Its triangular blade extends the musket by approx. 40 cm. A white leather sling is attached to the swivels. Two bands and the sideplate are made of brass. The hammer is cocked—ready to fire. Pulling the trigger will drive the flint held in the hammer against the frizzen, opening the pan, and the sparks from the flint will ignite the powder inside, initiating the shot through the touchhole.
