Red festive chasuble with the motif of the flame of the Holy Spirit
Roman style chasuble (fiddleback), with rounded bottom edges on the front and back. The neck opening is triangular. Edges are trimmed with gold-colored galloon. The front and back feature applied gold galloons: originally four sections on each side, currently two (the others were removed, leaving visible traces impressed in the velvet pile). The central column on the front is decorated with the motif of the flame of the Holy Spirit, repeated 15 times (in 6 rows, alternating between 2 and 3 motifs), executed in gold laid work embroidery. The column on the back is decorated with an analogous motif repeated 12 times in 5 rows; at the bottom is the embroidered episcopal coat of arms of Balthasar Liesch von Hornau (shield with three reed maces, surmounted by a bishop’s mitre, stole, and a crossed crosier and cross). Lining of pink silk moiré.
Provenance / Notes:
Chasuble from the foundation of Balthasar Liesch von Hornau (1592–1661), Suffragan of Wrocław. See provenance for Item 1.
