Officer's Gala Dress Coat, 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw (1810–1814)
Officer’s Gala Dress Coat, 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw (1810–1814)
The gala (parade, full dress) uniform for officers according to the 1810 “Dress Regulations” consisted of a navy blue woolen dress coat, a white woolen vest, and white woolen trousers. The coat collar is navy blue, standing, and fastened—for voltigeurs, the collar was yellow without piping. The lapels on the chest are white wool with crimson piping, fastened with small buttons featuring the number “2.” Cuffs are crimson with white piping. The sleeve tabs are white wool, fastened on the outer side, with crimson piping. The coat fastens on the chest with hooks and is cut away toward the thighs below the chest. Pockets are transverse, fastened with three-pointed flaps with crimson piping. The lining is white. The coat tails are turned back, and in the corners, gold embroidery features “bombs” (grenades) for Grenadiers, horns for Voltigeurs, or stars for Fusiliers.
The metal buttons are brass, featuring the embossed, raised regiment number. There are 7 small buttons on each side of the lapels; on the left side, below the lapels, are 3 large buttons, while on the right side, there are buttonhole-shaped embroideries. Each pocket has three large buttons, two at the waist, and three small ones on each sleeve tab, plus one small button for the epaulettes. The gold epaulettes are for an infantry captain: an epaulette with gold fringe on the left shoulder and a counter-epaulette without fringe on the right. The white woolen vest with pockets is visible halfway under the coat and is fastened with small uniform buttons featuring the number “2.”
