Lieutenant of the Polish-Italian Legion from 1807
Reenactor Krzysztof Poźniak presents an officer with the rank of lieutenant, dressed in the uniform of the Polish-Italian Legion from 1807. His gala attire consists of a characteristic dress coat with red lapels, cuffs, and collar, as well as white summer trousers tucked into high officer boots. His head is adorned with a bicorn hat with a French cockade attached. Particular attention is drawn to details testifying to his membership in Emperor Napoleon’s troops: a gorget with the imperial eagle on his chest and buttons with the same motif. These were not only a sign of loyalty but also a manifestation of national distinctness and a reference to the legionnaires’ resistance in Italy against attempts to deprive them of their native symbols. His armament consists of a heavy cavalry officer’s saber buckled to his side, the buckle of which features a decoration in the shape of Medusa’s head. The equipment is completed by an officer’s pouch slung from the left shoulder to the right hip.
