French cavalry flintlock pistol, AN XIII, 1807
Flintlock cavalry pistol, French AN XIII, dated 1807. Steel smoothbore barrel, walnut stock. The butt is fitted at the bottom with a brass pommel cap marked with the letter “M,” attached with two steel screws. The steel backstrap extends to the barrel tang plate, which is secured with a screw. The hammer, frizzen, frizzen spring, lock plate, and lock components are made of steel. The pan is brass. On the steel lock plate are engraved markings of the manufacturer “Maubeuge Manufactures Impériales” and a large stamped letter “M.” The side plate is brass, in two parts, attached with two steel screws connected to the lock plate, marked “M” and “P.H.” The front element of the side plate is connected to the trigger guard finial, marked “M.” Under the barrel is a steel band. The trigger and trigger plate are steel. The trigger guard mounting is brass, attached with a steel screw. On the wood are the markings “1807” and “EF.”
