Act of Donation of the Monastery and the Battle of Legnica Scene

The foundational painting from around 1700 holds great historical value, depicting the act of the monastery’s donation and the scene from the Battle of Legnica in 1241.

The painter captured the moment when Voivode Bronisz handed over the foundation act and endowed the Cistercians with goods (1234). Below, we see an element of the Voivode’s biography, his participation in the Battle of Legnica. The painting was created at the dawn of the 18th century, thus the costumes and scenography in the painting are characteristic of that era.
