Saint Joseph presents Jesus in the temple
The main part of the story of Saint Joseph is depicted on the side walls of the main nave. On the western side of the church, the seven joys of Saint Joseph are presented, including the fresco “Saint Joseph presents Jesus in the temple,” which is illuminated by sunlight at sunrise.
Complementing the themes presented in the frescoes are scenes depicted on the lunettes and antependia, which are in direct proximity to the central representations.
Michael Willmann, known as the “Silesian Rembrandt,” created over 50 wall polychromies within three years, adorning the interior of the fraternity church.
The abundance of these depictions in one place makes the Krzeszów church the largest collection of frescoes in Northern Europe, and the seat of the Brotherhood of Saint Joseph is popularly called the “Silesian Sistine Chapel.”
